REGION: South America.
OTHER NAMES: Amarelao, Brazilian Ash, Grapia, Grapiapunha, Garrote, Jatai-amarelo, Marotoa, Muiratua and Muirajuba.
COLOR: Color varies from yellow-beige tones to a more yellow-brown hue.
GRAIN and TEXTURE: There is great variation in the wood’s medium and uneven texture in addition to the appearance of straight, fine interlocked grain.
ODOR: No distinctive odor.
DENSITY: Medium density wood, with density of 830 Kg/m³ at 12% MC and green density of 1,030 Kg/m³.
DRYING: Dries very slowly, even in a well-controlled environment. Allow for medium volume shrinkage.
WORKABILITY: The wood glues easily and stays in place. It saws, nails and screws well with only a slight blunting effect on tools.
DURABILITY: Good durability with high resistance to daily wear and tear. Class A fire rating. Medium-high resistance to rot, decay and termites.
PRESERVATION: Naturally weathers to a silver gray patina. Recommended to use a sealer to keep its natural color.
USES: Interior and exterior construction (beams, shingles and shakes, panels, window shutters, doorposts, window sashes, baseboards and framing), decking and, flooring, tool handles, turnery and many other applications.
